Sick?

I'm not sure what happened today...but mom and dad sat down for dinner and I started throwing up. Mom had a feeling that something wasn't right with me today...she kept saying I felt 'hot'. Anyways, I threw up...a lot...she took my temp...it was 102...they gave me some Motrin (for the 1st time) and tossed me in the tub.

My temp. went down to 99.5 after medicine and tub...then I seemed to get a second wind...random. I'm acting fine now. Not as tired/lethargic as I was at dinnertime. Mom was scared - she hates seeing me sick. Hopefully this is just a 24 hr. bug or something. It's supposed to snow tonight and all day tomorrow which would make it very dangerous to drive anywhere! (i.e. doctor's office). Please cross your fingers for me that this was and is just a random bug!

5th Tooth? Yes! Finally!

It's been a great week so far. I've been super needy lately but all things considering - I've been doing pretty darn well with these teeth. Let's see...what's new since my last post. Well, today marked day #8 of the weaning process for mom and I. Some days are better than others. Like today, I ate at 830am...1215pm...230pm...5pm...and 830pm...so ya know...we're getting there. I think mom was being a little too aggressive at first. She was trying to hold me off for a certain amount of hours each time instead of taking away one feeding at a time for like...a week. It's okay mom...we're both learning.

So, I FINALLY got my 5th tooth in tonight. I've been working on 4 new ones...since Thanksgiving of 2009! NO JOKE! I was chomping on an ice cube tonight and mommy saw that my upper right one (next to my top 2 teeth) had just poked through. Phew! And...my bottom right one (next to my bottom 2 teeth) is oh. so. close!

I went to Kindermusik on Monday for the first time. I got to take an egg shaker thing-a-ma-jig home so I've been shaking that every chance I get. We're going to try the Village class next week and see if that one is geared more towards my age group than the one we were at this week. I'll keep ya posted.

Weaning :(

Today I went to Branson. Mom had to return some sweatpants at Nike - so we decided to make a little trip out of it. It rained all day...so it was a good day to just hang out - go for a long car ride - etc. We ended up eating at Chili's...I had mashed potatoes...mmmm...that's my new favorite thing and the ONLY thing that I'll eat these days.

Mom was really tired when we got home - so dad played with me for 2 hours while she took a nap! Thanks dad! I know mom really appreciated it! We made chocolate chip cookies when she woke up...then we talked to grandma Longley for a little while and then it was time for dinner. Guess what I had? Yep. You guessed it...mashed potatoes. Dad had a salad...and cookies (I know...I know)...mom had a salad and half a sandwich (and some cookies for dessert).

So...mom and I have started the process of weaning. I've waited to say anything on my blog until I knew it was official...but today marked the 4th day that we've been at it. And I'm not gonna lie...it's hard. I'm so used to nursing whenever I want - that being on a schedule now is tough. Like today for example...mom nursed me at 6am and then not again until 11 (that's 5 hrs!). She tried to hold me off until 3 for the next session but I was really fussy and just wanted to eat - so at 130 I ate again (2 1/2 hrs)...then again at 5 (3 1/2 hrs) and finally, 7 (2 hrs). I know that probably sounds like a lot to other 13 month olds...but when you're used to eating every hour (yes, I was eating that much)...days like today are a HUGE change for me.

Mom says the reason we're slowing down now is because I was biting her a lot. Almost every time I went to nurse, I would clamp down and not let go (ouch!) Plus...she knew there were a lot of times that we were just nursing out of routine - rather than real hunger...and she didn't want to wake up one day when I was 2 and say, 'Oh, maybe we should think about weaning?' And have it be that much harder on the both of us. Don't get me wrong...we are still going to nurse, as it is both of our favorite time together but mom is going to try and scale it back to once in the morning and once at night/just before bedtime. I still nurse throughout the night...so that could be a challenge. But we've decided to tackle one issue at a time. So, we're starting with the days! And I'll tell you what, it's proven to be quite a challenge for mom. So much so, that she had to call dad at work to come home for backup support on Thursday! I was so mad at her for not letting me nurse when I wanted to that I bit her face! Yep...you heard right...I bit my mom's face. Dad came home early from work and mom was relieved!

Although this is a new chapter for us, I know we'll get through it slowly but surely. Mom is 'weaning me with love' as she says...and she has a goal of having me down to 2 nursing sessions a day by April. That gives us both plenty of time to adjust. Wish us luck :)

I'm a Shoplifter?

I'm a shoplifter. I wanted you to hear it from me before mom and dad told you. Here's what happened...mom and I were at the grocery store today - she put a box of Fiber One bars in the cart and I just happened to be sitting in the actual 'cart' part of the shopping cart. (I was being fussy and didn't want to sit in the front thing...so the only way for mom to get me to stop crying was to put me in with the groceries...) - anyways, we went about our route in Walmart...checked out...paid for our things (or so mom thought) and headed out to the car. Well, mom was putting everything in the trunk and there was just one thing left...ME...and a torn up box of Fiber One bars...huh? I STOLE a box of Fiber One bars! I did?!
Somehow, I jimmied open the box...and threw each and every bar in and around my diaper bag which happened to be in the cart right next to me. The thing is so dang big that I was able to hide everything from mom until she unloaded the cart. Oh boy, were we cracking up outside! Mom didn't know what to do with me! We hopped in the car...mom buckled me in...there was no way we were going back inside...it's too much work with a baby! And I fell asleep in about 5 minutes or so...when mom looked in her rearview mirror...guess what she saw? Me...holding that stupid Fiber One box...all torn up...with Fiber One bars strewn around me in my carseat. Tee hee hee... :)
On another note - here are some new things I can say...BOOK...BALL...MAMA...DADA...DUCK...and today I said...DOG!

Ouchy

I got my chickenpox shot today :( man did it hurt...I fell asleep on the way home and when I woke up...watch out mom...I was a terror! I weighed in at 25 lbs. and found out my iron levels were great - which surprised the doctor since I only eat boob. Guess mom is made of steel :) Tee hee hee...

Dad is my new best friend. We spent a lot of quality time together tonight while mom ran errands. She left at 4 and got home at 7. That's a long time away mom! But dad hung in there and did a great job. He fed me mashed potatoes...gave me a bath...combed my hair and lotioned me up. I was snug as a bug in his arms when mom walked through the door. Good job dad!

Oh, and I have to tell my Aunt Erica that mom and I have gone running the past 2 days with our new jogging stoller! We love it!

Take 2!

Mommy posted the wrong video...here's the right one!

Weekend Update

What a nice weekend I've had so far! Daddy has Monday off so it'll be a 3-day weekend for all of us - which mommy just loves :) Let's see, yesterday we woke up, ate breakfast, grabbed coffee and jumped in the car to head to Osage Beach. We were originally going to Branson, but I didn't fall asleep like mom and dad had planned so we kept on driving. It took us about 2 hours - but we finally got to the outlets. We found some great deals! I picked out some shirts for my 2 baby cousins - Nash and Coleman!
I also said 'ball' yesterday for the first time! Mom and dad got me that ball pit (see earlier post) so I'm mastering the word. I think I said 'book' too! Oh, and I'm saying 'dad' much clearer now. What a big boy I'm becoming! Well, I did turn 13 months yesterday...so I'm not surprised.

Check out this video of me scooting for the 1st time. I've gotten much better but there's nothing like the 1st time! Daddy caught me on film:

Mom is busier than ever with her interviews for work - so it'll be dad and I on Monday afternoon. Mom has an assignment at 230 in Diamond - so we have to find something to keep us busy while she is gone! Dad...what are we going to do? Maybe we could play in my ball pit?

I go back to the pediatrician's office on Thursday for more shots. I think I am getting the chicken pox one...ewww...oh well, gotta stay vaccinated right? Hmmm, I think that's about it for me. Not much news!

My New Ball Pit!

Check me out in my new ball pit! Santa brought it to me for Christmas but I didn't actually open it until this afternoon. Mom and dad said I had way too many gifts for one little boy...so they 'hid' some in the closet. This was one of those gifts...and man...were they hiding the good stuff or what?!My goofy mom decided to crawl in the pit and play with me...oh mom! And dad did too! But I was sick of the camera so I refused to give them any more smiles...

And here is me peeking at you... :)

Boot-Scootin' Baby!!!

So...guess what happened yesterday??? Yep! You guessed it! I'm MOBILE! I'm not crawling...but I am one BOOT-SCOOTIN'-BABY! It was really funny...we were all in the living room...when mom and dad put me down on the floor. All of a sudden, I start scootin' across the floor and reach my little hand up towards dad's surround sound thing...turn the knob and voila! We need to baby-proof this house! Mom and dad just busted out laughing! It was so funny. Life as we know, will never be the same. Isn't it funny how all of us babies are so different? Who would've ever thought that I would be scooting around instead of crawling around?

When mom gets around to it - she said she'll post the video that dad took of me in action. :)

Brrr! It's cold out

Brrr!!! It's cold outside! I think it was like...5 degrees today! Mom bundled me all up and stuffed me in the car to go and get some coffee! Yumm!!!! We went home and took a 2 hour nap...NICE! Notice I said WE...mom was so tired she slept right next to me and fell right asleep. It was so nice...we were all snuggled up with each other - like two peas in a pod - two puzzle pieces...we were both on our sides...me all nestled up right against mommy. My feet were all tucked in to to her tummy and my head was just underneath her chin. We were super toasty :) When we woke up, daddy was home. What a nice day :)

Stressed! Nah...not me!

What a friggin' stressful day. You have no idea. Absolutely no idea. Who told mom and dad it would be a good idea to schedule back-to-back dentist appointments today? Huh, who? Was it you? 'Cuz it sure wasn't me, the 1 year old, who couldn't sit still after the first HOUR in there. They thought it'd be better to stick me in there for TWO hours. Oh yeah, great. Well, tantrum, that's what you get for thinking I could last on one, 20 minute nap this morning.

Oh, and it gets better. Mom thought it'd be fun, yeah you heard me, FUN, to have the dentist look at my teeth for the first time to get me 'used to going to the dentist' as she put it. WRONG! I should have known something crappy was about to happen when her and the dentist sat knee-to-knee and laid me down on their laps like I was doing the fish pose in yoga. Are-you-kidding-me-mom?

And, if that wasn't enough, it's now 12pm and we are all STARVING. And when mama-cita doesn't get food...NObody gets food. Watch out! Mamma gets STRESSED OUT big time. So, we hopped in the car - bypassed getting gas FOR THE CAR! Who needs gas? Nah, we'll just run on fumes, literally. Windshield washer fluid, clear out, nah, who needs that on a slushy-road day? Heck, not I! Afterall, I'm still REAR-FACING in the backseat and pissed off about it like it's nobody's business. Yep, I have those parents. The ones who plan on squeezing out every single pound and inch they can out of the carseat we have. Lucky-ducky-me.

Anyways, back to the lunch thing. I knew we shouldn't have stopped. I was minding my own business in the backseat - playing with Micky - when mom and dad pulled in to the Village Inn. WRONG PLAN! I told them right away, well actually, I waited for them to get comfy, take off their coats and order their LUNCH before I started screaming. Did someone say, PAYBACK? So, it was 'let's take-it-to-go for us' and back in the car we went.

I won't even tell you about our gas station stop en route home...but instead, I'll skip right to the part where we got home and dad almost tripped and killed himself on Bailey's bone. Agh, what a day...

Villisca, Iowa 2009

This is the view that me, mom and dad saw while sitting in our car, on the highway, at the end of gram and gramp Gourley's road, waiting for grandpa Gourley to plow a path for us to their house. Mom took this picture with her phone. We DROVE in this weather!
